Diego Rossi scores back-to-back goals as Columbus Crew top Inter Miami 3-2
It seemed as though Inter Miami had sealed the deal and punched its ticket to the Leagues Cup quarterfinal after taking a 2-0 lead against the Crew in the 62nd minute of their match. But a goal from Christian Ramirez and two from Diego Rossi in the span of 13 minutes kept the Crew alive as they advanced in the tournament with a 3-2 victory.
Miami, which was without star forward Lionel Messi, scored the first goal of the match in the first 10 minutes. Holding that lead going into halftime, midfielder Diego Gomez scored Miami's second goal at the 62-minutes mark.
It was five minutes later that Ramirez, who was a halftime substitute, put life into the Crew lineup with a header goal to cut the lead to one. Two minutes later, Rossi tied the game 2-2.
The game remained tied until the 80th minute, when Rossi scored his second goal of the night and secure the win. This is the second match in a row Rossi has scored two goals.
Crew goalkeeper Nicholas Hagen recorded two saves.
The Crew advance to the Leagues Cup quarterfinal and will face the winner of the Tigres-New York City FC match at Lower.com Field on Saturday.
